Our Vision
Our vision is to help grow and support small businesses in Sharrow Vale.
As locals we love the unique collection of shops in the Vale and see that a central website would improve the accessibility of the shops and services available, making it easy for locals and visitors to easily search and see what's on offer.
To support this we'll be maintaining and growing the site as well as providing regular web articles like: 'Top 5 places to grab a drink in Sheffield this Summer' or 'Best places to get graduation gifts in Sheffield' which continue to bring new traffic to the site and to the businesses on it. This alongside promotion at events like the markets will help lead local people to consider Sharrow Vale as the place to go for their local needs.
There's lots of ways we could develop this site but for now we're not looking to replace any existing sites, just looking for businesses that want to partner with us in boosting business in the area.
This site is not a replacement of the Sharrow Vale Community Association but we are aspiring to partner with them.

How do you plan to attract people?
Estimates say there are 15,000 people who live within a 15 minute walk of Sharrow Vale. The goal of the directory is to those shift the mindset of those customers into to understanding that everything they need can be found on Sharrow Vale, increasing footfall to the area. Second to that we see the site as a resource for locals to quickly check a detail or discover a hidden gem. The Vale already has many strengths, our plan is to promote them, making it more accessible to a digital audience. Google insights research shows the 76% of people will look up somewhere online before they visit it in person yet so often it's hard for people to find the information they're looking for. We want the directory to be customers go-to site for this. Over time making Sharrow Vale the go to place to eat, shop and meet friends. We want to do this in two formats:
Digital Promotion
Social Media Marketing - We'll be using Instagram to post content that highlights businesses on the directory and promotes web content to bring traffic to the site. Watch this space.
Web articles - Written every month to highlight an aspect of the Vale e.g. '5 places to find the perfect gift in Sheffield' or 'We tried the 3 best pizzas in Sharrow Vale' etc. These will be hosted on the website, attracting people to the directory when they search for related topics.
SEO Optimisation - Using special site settings, Google Ad spend and keyword targeting we'll boost the directories search ranking. We're frequently in the top 2-3 results for Sharrow Vale, a search that gets more than 50 searches a day and 75% of users never scroll past the first page of search results. As the site managers we'll be frequently reviewing and optimising our SEO.
Local events - As locals one thing we're always asking is 'Whens the market on again?', We love the market and hope to use our site to boost it's online visibility, raising awareness for the directory as we do. We'd also hope to add details about other similar community events that might attract traffic, please reach out if you have ideas.
Local Promotion
Sharrow Vale Market - At the market we'll be handing out flyers and promoting the site, telling visitors about it and encouraging them to rethink how they can use the vale as their one-stop shop for eating out, meeting a friend and buying the things they need. Resources for shop owners - We're still working out what this looks like but at minimum we plan to provide listed businesses with a sign they can display to customers encouraging them to check out the site.
Students - Each year some 20,000 new students come to Sheffield yet many of them don't know about all the places on Sharrow Vale and so never visit. We plan to do in-person marketing near student accommodations, raising awareness of the area and encouraging them to check the directory to discover more.

That's why we're running it for free for the next 2 months (till mid September) so that you can get listed and see how the site works at no cost to you. After this we'll review the success of it and provide you with analytics so you can assess it's benefits.
